Bee Friendly Wildflowers is a small family not-for-profit venture set up to provide bee friendly native wildflower plants to local community projects to help improve the biodiversity of their area and make places more welcoming for them and other wildlife. We are passionate about local native wildflowers and want to help inspire and encourage others to make their green spaces as bee-friendly as possible.
We volunteer for and have grown and donated approximately 3,000 seedlings and plug plants to various local projects, including Hermitage Field Meadow Project, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Wild Ingleborough project, Wild About Lothersdale Community group and more recently with the Growing Station Wildflower Nursery for Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape. We have also recently worked with our local primary school to create a wildflower area.
We work as sustainably and ecologically friendly as possible; all our plants are grown from locally sourced seeds or from other local sustainable sources. We use peat free compost and never use pesticides. We source, clean and re-use local second-hand plastic pots. We do sell surplus plants and seeds; all the proceeds of which go towards covering our propagation costs, and we minimise labels and paperwork by having plant care and advice online (see also our facebook page).
If you own or have access to a flower border, lawn, hedgerow, pond, container, allotment or mini -meadow have a look to see how bee-friendly your green space already is. If you have any ‘gaps’ or simply want to increase your flowering period, then please check our WILDFLOWER species list to see if there are any plants and seeds that will help you create or enhance your nature rich green space. Native wildflowers are hardy and more resilient to pests than imported ornamental plants and so will last longer in your garden.
